3 Concepts April 8, 2020 by Emily Chopoorian Leave a Comment My first concept (numbered) is a money goal that I have set for myself. I was very sad that I had no income coming in since I was not allowed to leave the house for work. Instead I found several ways for myself to stay busy while still making money online. I plan to make at least 50 dollars each day using solely online platforms. The first platform I am using is a running app that pays you to take steps. I downloaded several of these apps so that for each day I could make 10,000 steps, the equivalent to 8 dollars. This would allow me to make almost 80 dollars each day with the number of apps I have downloaded. However, After the first day, I realized that with the work I have to do that this would be a little difficult. So I looked for more ideas. I began taking online surveys each day as well as selling my old clothing, technology, and textbooks online. Additionally, I decided to look for more influencer jobs, ideas to create a website or business, etc. All of these activities combined relate to the hierarchy of needs and the design hierarchy of needs as these activities are functional, reliable (thus far), usable, increase my proficiency, and finally allow for me to be more creative, finding new ways to make money or start a business. This will increase my self esteem bringing me closer to self-actualization. My second concept has to do with communication. At the start of quarantine, I had not been communicating with family and friends that often. Now, we have scheduled weekly facetime or zoom calls to keep in touch. I did not think that this would affect me as much as it did. For myself, this satisfies my need for love and comfort. With this, I am better able to carry on to the next level on Maslow’s hierarchy: self-esteem. Additionally, increased communication with family and friends will ultimately lead me to creativity on the design hierarchy of needs as long as each weekly FaceTime call remains consistent. Talking with friends and family members can be great for creativity as we can learn from each other different ways to cope with COVID-19 and to keep ourselves busy and happy. My third and final concept is the idea of list-making. My family and I have been making lists and hanging them on the side of the fridge. Our family members with take turns putting up ideas and we will all pick one together. For example: the movies we want to watch or what board game or meal we want. This accomplishes all levels of the design hierarchy of needs as well as up until self-esteem in Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. In the design hierarchy, this activity is functional, reliable, usable proficient (as it is better than anything we’ve tried before as a family), and fosters creativity. We have all been coming up with very creative ideas because it has become a kind of competition whose idea gets picked. The more creative or fun, the more likely we are to choose it. Additionally, on Maslow’s hierarchy, we are brought more love and self-esteem when we do these activities and when one of our ideas is picked. Overall, each of these activities have been bringing me closer to self actualization as well as allowing me to practice my creativity.
