While we are mostly trained to think about solutions to problems within our mind, it isn’t until we begin to explore visually and physically that we see where there are potential opportunities or even limitations. In this assignment you will create a tea light holder using only white printer paper and clear tape or glue.
Spend some time exploring how the material works: play with folding, bending, and twisting to see what kind of shapes can be created. Use a cutting tool, scissors or knife, to explore how different cuts in the material create different reactions. Then, consider how you can combine all that you’ve discovered into a unique 3D tea light holder. This should be something you are proud of and would be willing to place on your dresser or desk at home.
Bring your completed tea light holder and tea light to our next class and be prepared to discuss your exploration, what constraints you ran up against, and why you made your final choices.
